Lithium battery charging management solution for portable devices

Program Overview

This reference design uses microchip's MCP19118 as a control chip, infineon's fifth-generation OptiMOS for power conversion, fast and high-current charge management of portable lithium battery packs, few peripheral devices, high electrical conversion efficiency, low ripple current, and protection functions perfect. The control chip MCP19118 is a digital enhanced power analog controller with a synchronous driver. It integrates an analog PWM controller and an 8-bit MCU, that is, it has a fast dynamic response of analog devices, and it can also flexibly realize the charging curve and various functions. The fifth generation OptiMOS has smaller Rdson, smaller parasitic capacitance, and smaller Trr of parasitic diodes. It is more suitable for high-frequency PWM power conversion circuits, and has a greater help in improving overall performance.

main feature

    • High-current charging management for multi-series lithium batteries

    • When in standby, the output voltage can be provided, and the battery pack can determine whether it is a suitable charger

    • Plug in the battery, there will be no inrush current, the charger automatically detects the battery, and automatically starts charging

    • Can achieve a variety of protection functions, such as input voltage undervoltage and overvoltage protection, output overcurrent protection, temperature protection, etc.

Target application

    • Lithium battery fast charging
